Portable Antiquities Scheme Findspot Density

This map shows the density of findspots from the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) database over a Google Map. The PAS database contains details of over 150,000 portable antiquities dating from the Palaeolithic to the 18th century reported by members of the public. Points representing the location of each of the findspots was extracted from the database and imported into the desktop GIS GRASS which was used to create the raster density map. The map was exported from GRASS and is delivered to your browser by MapServer using the industry standard WMS protocol.
